PG 101 BOOTCAMP - June 2, 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM
Light breakfast, coffee, lunch and snacks are included in your registration fee.
This Planned Giving 101 intensive is designed for those development professionals and nonprofit leaders who want a solid understanding of what “Planned Giving” is, why it is important, and how to make it a reality in your organization…when you are already too busy.
Planned Giving (aka Charitable Gift Planning & Legacy Giving) is often considered to be complicated and highly specialized. For many it can conjure ghoulish images or feelings and all the discomfort that brings. But it doesn’t have to! Planned Giving is the next logical step in a donor journey (not the final step by any means); one that brings joy and comfort to donors and their families.
The fast-paced agenda is packed with information and delivered in a way that makes it easy to understand – cutting through jargon and demystifying the topic. The program provides immediate, real-life application for your organization. The day is open to anyone in the nonprofit space. Each session in this proven curriculum is designed to help those completely new to the concept and those who are looking to grow their knowledge base.
Each participant will leave with an action plan to launch or grow their Planned Giving program (though, you’re not going to call it that), including steps to take the very next day (or even that evening if you aren’t good with work/life balance). Join us to learn about Planned Giving and how to speak with donors, volunteers, and organizational leaders.

GIFT PLANNING CONFERENCE - June 3, 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM
Light breakfast, coffee, lunch and snacks are included in your registration fee.
Session 1: “Donor Benefits in Charitable Gift Planning & Simpler Types of Planned Gifts” (Pamela Davidson)
This session addresses the many significant donor advantages in certain charitable gift plans, using assets at an opportune time during lifetime and in estate plans to further the planning goals of the donor. A donor who makes a good gift choice can be a philanthropist often at a level not thought possible, while also enjoying many capital gains, income, estate and gift tax advantages in the same charitable plan. Income is possible from some charitable plans for self and/or others, funded even by a child to provide additional support for parents, or to save for retirement. These plans can be funded during lifetime optimally, and also in estate plans, leading to repeat gift potential.
The session will also provide a “Cliff Notes” of simpler and the most likely planned gift options that all Community Foundations can understand and promote with most prospects.
Session 2: “Mastering Donor Conversations: Insights and Strategies” (Matthew Treadwell)
Based on litigation tool known as the Funnel Method, this presentation will provide practical tips to initiate meaningful planned giving conversations with donors. Particular focus will be given to moving these conversations from transactional interactions to thoughtful dialogues that uncover donors' true motivations and philanthropic passions.
Session 3: “I Don’t Know Anything about You…Opening the Door to Gift Planning” (Pamela Davidson)
Development staff generally have no idea how to introduce gift planning into a conversation with a prospect. This session will address that need, using scripted sentences to elicit interest in gift plans and to introduce gift planning ideas and concepts to most donors and prospects. We rarely know about the specific asset holdings of our donors and prospects, nor their capacity to give nor much about their personal planning goals. These statements elicit valuable leads, using asset choices and planning goals AND NOT the technical aspects of planned gifts to start a meaningful conversation with that prospect. The presentation also contains an answer key, which gift plans can be suggested as the most likely for each stated impediment to giving.
Sessions will be followed by a Q&A with Pamela and Matthew.
